About the Game:
This game was a weekend project to retro-remake of a Letter Blaster game for the Apple II
The game was designed to help kids learn.

Overview:
This is a retro remake of the letter blaster game I played on the Apple 2 many, many years ago. The original game dropped letters from the sky, and you had to type the letter before it landed. If too many letters fall, game over.

The Remake:
I turned the game into stunning 1990s era 3D with sketch. Watch out Superman N64 :) This game was put together in a few hours. I tried to make gameplay more interesting by adding a shoot-then-point camera (movement), crazy little people running on the ground (expense), and epic sound effects.

Games for Helen2008

The idea is to create a game that helps people who are having to learn a new input system. When the original game was made many people didnt know how to type on a computer. Now, with varied input devices, the game should help entertain someone trying to use an on screen keyboard or alternate text input device. If someone is learning to use eye tracking software with an on-screen keyboard, for example, you could use this game to get practice. The incremental increase (from one region of the keyboard to the next) should help with fatigue somewhat.
you can try this by using an onscreen keyboard from Windows Tablet Versions or XP and up versions with the on-screen keyboard (windows/accessories/accessability). you could resonable attempt gameplay with any other input device that throws a keypress event to windows (e.g. voice recognition, et al).

Usage Tips:
-The game speed can be changed by typing s multiple times at the start screen (it will loop back down to 0 if you hit it enough).
-The starting letters can be changed to practice a specific set by typing [up] or [down] at the start screen
-Score is balanced by misses (incorect keys) and letters that land on the ground or the buildings. Everytime you run the game, the building height and location changes for a little veriety. The more you play, the higher the letters start, so their velocity increases by the time they are near the ground.
As always, the better you play, the harder the game gets.

Tech:
Blitz3d with some 3DS models and some
Photoshop
. It was a weekend blitz, plus a few hours for debigging.

Art:
Im not sure you would call anything in this game, art. It serves its function though.

Tech Support:
I'll try to help, but the first thing I would do is run the "alt" game. This is a version compiled against an older version of DirectX. It seems to run on some computers that don't run the regular version (like my Tablet PC).

Enjoy, and happy judgin.
